finish lineWIN The Race and End it STRONG!

By Dee Taylor-Jolley

We rushed into his office. We are late due to unpredictable rush hour traffic on a Wednesday afternoon. "Pop" Yoho sat at his desk with a stack of papers he had prepared for us, pushed to the right front corner of his desk.

Face The Music

“So, let’s get started,” he said. “We are moving into the last quarter of the year. Where are you on meeting your yearly goals? Are you managing your cash flow effectively? Are you taking advantage of your monthly bank float? Are you paying off all your credit card bills monthly…never, never, ever paying interest fees?!!! Are you growing your social media footprint? It’s the kiss of death for your business if you’re not! Do you have 100,000 friends yet?"

So began the conversation and then dinner with our mentor and surrogate father, Dave "Pop" Yoho. His son David introduced Willie to the National Speakers Association more than twenty some years ago. Eighty-three years old, Pop still is the driving force behind his multi-million dollar business. He reviews our business goals and strategies and offers advice to help us focus to “sprint successfully” to the 2012 finish line.

While September begins the new school year, September ends the fiscal year for governments, as well as starts the business budgeting cycle for the next year. As business owners, we must be in that same planning wave.

Know Your Numbers

What is your total revenue received to date?

How much revenue do you need to earn this last quarter to meet your yearly goal?

Plan and Act Now

Reach out to past clients. Do they have year-end needs? Is there any low hanging fruit to be collected?

Put any new project/program, with techniques and strategies, in place by October 1st.

Refocus your team with fresh effective selling scripts, which identify customer problems and offer them solutions tailored to their needs.

Maintain laser focus. As Willie stated in his article, write your goals the night before and prioritize them. The next day, work on number #1 until you’ve accomplished it! Then move to the next one.

Also, write down your 2013 goals and begin to develop your implementation plan for the first quarter 2013.

We are committed to the long distance race to maintain a successful business. Whatever it takes! Lace up your track shoes too. Let’s get moving!
