Join me and shorten your learning curve! Find out what’s going on in the industry right now; identify where you need to put your focus; and develop your strategy to position yourself for success!
Serious Business
The speaking business is serious business. This new economy demands that we bring our "A" game every moment! "This new economy" is code for businesses, nonprofits, government agencies, community groups (and yes, even churches) all demand more value from their presenters!
Lucrative Business
Still, the business of speaking is a very lucrative business.... if you know the rules of the game and are taught how to maneuver the challenges.
And that's where I, Willie Jolley, come in. I've built an international speaking brand over the last twenty-one years, starting as a fired nightclub singer, who was replaced by a karaoke machine! And in 1999, named "One of the Outstanding Five Speakers In The World" by Toastmaster International; and in 2005, honored to be inducted into the Speakers Hall Of Fame. That just shows you what is possible once you decide.
It’s Complicated
It's complicated. I never thought I'd say that! Yes, the speaking business is challenging. There are multiple moving parts, especially today, with social media outlets like Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. Just "a passion in the belly" is a good start, but it is not enough!
Meeting and Event Planners
Meeting and event planners will search for you on Google and YouTube before they call! Companies want to know if you've spoken to groups similar to theirs. Do you have testimonials and video on your website to validate who you say you are? Do you have a professional speaking website?
Product
Do you have any product? Have you authored a book? Do you have any podcasts, webcasts or just recorded seminars under your belt? What do you talk about on your blog? Is it consistent with your message you want organizations to buy? They've checked out your competition to compare before they talk to you. And they want you for free!
Presenter Types
Whew! Sounds overwhelming. By the way, are you a content speaker or trainer, a celebrity speaker, an information marketer (newer to the game, but very successful) an inspirational or a motivational speaker, a facilitator or seminar leader? Not sure? Don't worry; we'll help you sort that out. There are still thousands of meetings annually that need presenters. We want to help more people position themselves to fill that need!
Things In Common
These positions all have some of the same demands. They need you to: master the art of persuasion
- Stand and deliver
- Not be boring
- Bring passion to your information
- Be entertaining;
- Be thought provoking;
- Serve it all up in sound bites as they check their Twitter and Facebook accounts every few minutes!
Oh and by the way, use multimedia to support your presentation - for we all know people learn differently. And you have all learning styles in your audiences!
Decide & Take Action
If you decide that professional speaking is your career path, then you must constantly educate yourself! Get as much information and experience as possible. Attending my Speaking Boot Camp will jump-start you!
Mentors & Coaches
Growing this business has not been easy, but it is do-able- if you get good mentors and coaches. Early in my career, I ran from pillar to post trying to figure it out on my own. I struggled. Eventually I figured out I needed help. I found mentors (asked and sometimes begged folks for a few minutes of their valuable time); hired coaches when I could not afford to; attended professional development seminars; and put myself in the company of those who were doing what I believed God had called me to do.
Once I got good counsel and coaching from those who had achieved success, then things started to change dramatically. Then I realized why even great performers, like Tiger Woods, have coaches!
